Campaign Spending

The press has made much of the notion that we have out spent our opponent 2-1.

We take the charge to report every penny seriously. We have accounted for computer ink, paper, pens, water, etc. Our report was honest and open. When we incurred an expense we reported it. As we understand it that is not only the intent of the law but it is the law. We are confident that a close look at expenses incurred in both campaigns will verify a parody of spending.

We are proud of our grass roots campaign. We’ve spent many nights stuffing envelopes to avoid the cost of having it done commercially. We have found bargains on paper and other supplies and we have used skills within our campaign staff to avoid the cost of outside consultants for mailers and our web site.

We announced our campaign almost a year ago. During the last 12 months we have been holding events and communicating with voters through letters and other media forms. Our expenses reflect our commitment to communicate with the voters.

Totally lost in the reporting is the tremendous out pouring of support from friends and supporters. We have been blessed with over 175 donations from individuals. This is a record and out paces my opponent by 4 to 1. These donations have been almost exclusively from residents and not groups. While we have raised a record amount of money our average per donor is a lower amount than my opponent.
